Smart Transaction Systems and GO Software Establish XML Interface Between POS and Gift Card Applications

Integration enables seamless data transfer for GO Software’s merchants.

LAS VEGAS – July 21, 2004 – Smart Transaction Systems (STS) a provider of gift card, customer loyalty and customer relationship management solutions, and GO Software, a provider of payment processing software, announced at the 2004 Retail Solutions Providers Association’s (RSPA) EXPOtech the integration of GO Software’s PCCharge payment processing software with Smart Transaction Systems’ gift loyalty and gift card transaction processing system. The integration is one of the first certifications between a payment processing application and a gift card/customer loyalty application using eXtensible Markup Language (XML) to translate data.

“Smart Transactions Systems shares our vision of uniting software providers for the sake of overall industry progress,” said Tony Abruzzio, executive vice president and general manager, GO Software. “XML removes the barriers previously preventing vendors from collaborating and providing retailers with a superior product.”

GO Software’s PCCharge uses XML to format gift and loyalty program transaction data so that it can be transmitted to the merchant’s bank processor. XML is an internationally accepted method of exchanging information, allowing differing software applications to communicate with one another. With XML as the common language between the two products, GO Software and STS successfully established fast and efficient interoperability between the two companies.

“The XML-based format represents the first step toward standardizing communication between point-of-sale and gift card/customer loyalty program providers,” said Ray Clopton, president of Smart Transaction Systems. “As a result, Smart Transaction Systems can offer point-of-sale system integrators and merchants a better, more seamless way of accepting gift cards or implementing a customer loyalty program.”

“The integration supports our overall goal of delivering a more extensive product portfolio to our customers and meeting the needs of any size merchant,” added Abruzzio.
